And the film industry wouldn’t be the same without these women who bring so many incredible life stories to life.
Not only do these they help with Latinx representation in the film industry in a time where the Latinx community only makes up 6.6% of streaming film roles, but they also help tell the stories of Latinx culture and heritage. For example, Salma Hayek illustrated the life of the world-renowned surrealist Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and Jennifer Lopez acted and sang as Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla. More recently, actresses like Julissa Calderon and Xóchitl Gomez have appeared in series like Gentefied on Netflix, which show the struggles of gentrification and racial disparities that affect Mexican Americans. These stories are important ones to tell and thanks to these Latinas actresses, they can be told properly.
